Maisha Mapya opened a new
branch in the Capital City of Tanzania. There is so much
need for vocational training for young people here and with
the growing city there is an increased demand for skilled
workers. We like to assist those young people who come from
families who deserve to be supported.
A building was found in December
2010 and a long lease signed. The building was renovated
to make it suitable for holding 2 classrooms. Outside toilets
have been built, the entrance gate repaired and fitted,
furniture made locally and delivered. In the 2nd half of
2011 a new classroom was built which will allow the Centre
to enroll more students in 2012.
A team of teachers have been
recruited and an administration set up. Moral support was
received from local government leaders and the hotel industry.
The Maisha Mapya Dodoma Centre
will operate under the umbrella of the Anglican Diocese
of Central Tanganyika (DCT). The DCT has a long tradition
of providing all kind of education (secondary, school for
the blind, vocational trainingm, etc) in the region and
the diocese was happy to support the initiative of the Maisha
Mapya Centre. The school, however, is open to students from
all religions.
The renovation of the building
and the purchase of furniture has been made possible by
a kind donation from Alida and Gary Schotel through Big
Country Printers (1976) in Quesnel, BC Canada
