Our school

Every year thousands of Tanzanian children finish their primary education with no prospects of continuing their education. This can be because of failing of the exams or the lack of money to go on to private schools. The Maisha Mapya Education Centre was established to help girls and boys who finished primary school and one or two classes of secondary school.

We especially help those families, who have not the resources to pay for the education of their children.

We focus our training on a 2 year course in hotel management and the majority of our students have secured a job after their studies.

OUR TEACHING PROGRAMME

Our teaching programme focuses on the following components:
Hotel Management; a selected group of students receive theory and practical training by professional teachers. In the second year students go for practical training to hotels in the surrounding areas of Moshi.
English: a popular subject with the students, which will give them better job opportunities and confidence;
Mathematics: necessary skill in today's life;
Sports: exercise and team building;
Domestic Science; health, cooking, clothes making;
Sowing and handicraft: subject with opportunities for self employment;
Health: personal hygiene, AIDS

NEWS : 2009 VALKENBURG CHRISTMAS MARKET

Anna, Tunde and Nadine

Anna Knops (who stayed one year in Moshi with her parents) played the flute, while Tunde Krux and Nadine Robeers played clarinets.

During the Xmas market in Valkenburg aan de Geul (Limburg, The Netherlands) three students performed as musical street artists to collect money for Maisha Mapya.

They performed twice and managed to collect over 100 Euro to support the work of Maisha Mapya.

A big thanks to those brave students who performed so well and raised awareness about education in Africa!

2008-2009 A NEW CLASSROOM

the finished classroom

In the second half of 2008 Maisha Mapya received a kind donation from Share4More - Rabobank through Mr and Mrs Ton Zaal in The Netherlands. Mr Zaal had asked Share4More to allocate part of his "share" to the building of a new classroom for Maisha Mapya, which they fully supported. This new classroom will be designated for more practical subjects such as cooking, hotel management practical and art classes.

The building took a lot of time and energy, but we are now happy to see the final result.

Thanks to SHARE4MORE and Family Zaal !

Anna Robinson cycling for Maisha Mapya

Congratulations Anna, well done!!

Anna Davidson in the UK raised funds for Maisha Mapya by cycling 1,000 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats in 2008. She wrote: The choice of charity is really important to me and has a bit of history. This year I was awarded a prize by the University of Edinburgh, which is allowing me to fund the trip, and in doing so I want to pass on something positive. I was fortunate in my education, and this is my chance to help out young people at the Maisha Mapya Education Centre in Moshi, Tanzania. The centre is planning to build a third classroom (for domestic science classes) and needs funds for materials in the room, such as shelves, tables, chairs, stoves and cooking materials.

The classroom is now finished and the Centre already purchased 4 large tables and 30 sturdy chairs. Also a strong cupboard was bought to store teaching materials. Cooking materials and a stove will be bought soon.

Thanks also to the Tanzania Development Trust in the UK to make it possible for Anna to raise funds through the Justgiving website. TDT is a lively aid & development charity that promotes understanding and friendship.
